Ever heard the thunderous sound of drum beats at a Japanese festival? How about the cadence of a samurai army marching toward you on the battlefield?! Taiko drums are a staple of traditional Japanese music, and have been used for centuries in everything from stage performances and gagaku, to the song of huge armies marching to war in feudal Japan. Take an afternoon to get to know the history of Taiko drums at a museum, then get hands-on and start pumping out the beats! A taiko drum master will show you how to play taiko so you can experience for yourself how taiko drumming can be fun and relaxing - not to mention healthy exercise! Afterwards, take a guided walk through Asakusa to view its temples and shrines and get to know a little more about Japan's history and religion.
